2023 – 2024 Club Events

Competition – September 11 – STREET PHOTOGRAPHY: The image must tell a story that occurs in public places involving people going about their daily lives.

Program – September 25 – Castles, Highlands, and History: During the summer season, member Bill Schalk had the opportunity to travel to England and Scotland. He shares his wonderful experience and photos showcasing their rich culture and history.

Competition – October 9 – MACRO/CLOSEUP: The object that is the focus of attention in the image must be smaller than a mailbox.
Ex: A close-up of fruit, flower, bug, etc. A Macro view of just a small part of something, etc.

Program – October 23 – Making the Most of Your Cell Phone Images: Members Bill Schalk and Jasmin Bretaña will review smartphone photography basics surrounding the features and settings found across the latest iPhone and Android phones, which mobile applications work well for editing cell phone images, and how to export your cell phone images to edit them in your favorite desktop applications.

Competition – November 13 – DECAY: The object that is the focus of attention in the image must be something that has been derelict or neglected or decaying in nature.
Ex: Abandoned buildings, rusting vehicles, signs, wood, logs, etc.

Program – November 27 – Costa Rica, Pioneers in Ecotourism: Learn about Costa Rica’s efforts to promote sustainable ecotourism as Ron DeKett takes you on a visual tour of the small country’s natural and cultural heritage.

Competition – December 11 – CELL PHONE IMAGES: The original image must be captured using the camera of a cell phone. Photo editing is allowable as it is for other photos.

Program – December – No Program

Competition – January 8 – CREATIVE: The image is manipulated or enhanced with in-camera techniques or with photo enhancement software, filters, plug-ins, or actions showing the maker’s creativity.
Ex: Should be unique and different, perhaps out of the ordinary.   

Program – January 22 – Painting with Light: Member Dennis Hafer will run an interactive instructional on how to paint with light.

Competition – February 12 – SPORTS: The object that is the focus of attention in the image must be predominantly something to do with sports

Program – February 26 – Annual Business Meeting: This is a great opportunity for members to ask questions, make suggestions for programs, equipment, etc. What can the club do for you as a member? Please, no guests at this meeting as it’s intended for members only.

Competition – March 11 – ANYTHING GOES: The image can be anything the rules permit. It’s wide open and everything qualifies as Select. Go for it. Use your imagination and creativity.

Program – March 25 – Focus Stacking: Photographer Paul Ewing provides an overview and demonstration about focus stacking.

Competition – April 8 – SHADOWS: The dark shape that appears on a surface when an object blocks light.

Program – April 22 – The Land of Fire & Ice Travelogue: Member Christine Loose-Randall and her husband Rob Randall share their photos and experiences from their recent trip to Iceland.

Competition – May 13 – ARCHITECTURE: Anything related to architecture, buildings, parts of buildings. You may isolate aspects of the subject to emphasize design portions.

Program – May – No Program

Competition – June 10 – NATURE: The image must be naturally present in Nature. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photography without changing the nature story or the pictorial content are permitted. Digital enhancement and manipulation must not be obvious. All adjustments must appear natural. Must not contain any presence of the “hand of man.”  Everything must be there naturally, without human intervention. It is your responsibility NOT to enter images where the “hand of man” has been removed after the image was taken, except for cropping.
Unacceptable examples: Cultivated or domestic plants, pets, farm animals, mounted specimens, or set arrangements.

Competition – June 24 – End of Season Competition: Members can select up to 10 of their favorite accepted entries from the current season to reenter for the end of season competition. First, second, and third place winners are selected from each photo category by a panel of judges.
