Program: Down a Lazy River

February 6, 2023 by Admin

April 24 @ 7:00 pm

“Down a Lazy River” Is a photographic, historic and cultural trip down one of the most famous rivers in Europe. Starting in Paris we will venture through rural Normandy seeing and visiting notable sights along the river Vally all the way to the English Channel at Le Harve, the second largest seaport in France. Richard the Lionheart, Joan of Arc, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh all make appearances and maybe even a troglodyte along the way. All of this in the verdant Vally of the Seine as seen from the comfort or I dare say luxury of a modern river boat.

About Susan & Pete Mathews

Wanderers

Susan and Pete Mathews are lifelong travelers, both separately and together.

Susan started traveling for recreation and enlightenment after finishing school and eventually carried it over into her work where she travelled the country. Pete started his traveling with an all-expense paid exploration of the North Atlantic with Uncle Sam and has carried that over into both recreational and business travel ever since.

They have each travelled six of the seven continents on the planet (Australia being the exception) either together or separately. Since retirement they have been utilizing Pete’s equally long interest interest in photography, presentation and teaching skills by creating and presenting pictorial programs about their trips so that others may learn from and enjoy their travels as well. It is an endeavor they hope to continue as long as health and finances hold out. To quote Mahatma Gandhi, “Not all who wander are lost”.

Pete’s Photo Curriculum Vitae

A life long interest in photography began with his mothers gift of a folding Kodak camera. Later working in a camera store led to his buying his first 35mm and joining a camera club. While in the service he started a mail order course for Photographers Mate. Circumstances and the “good of the service” led in other directions (to sea). Education has been through the workshop path. Pete has studied Marine photography with Neal Parent (three workshops and personal outings on the coast of Maine, both ashore and afloat) outdoor photography with Larry West, Landscape photography with John Sexton (LF) and various National Geographic photographers including Ralph Lee Hopkins, Joel Sartore and Bob Krist among others. While always an amateur (choosing to keep it a hobby) He did teach a course in basic digital photography at LMC (South Haven Campus) for ten years. Today most of his photography is either outdoor/wildlife locally or travel photography world wide, He has presented the occasional lecture on Marine and travel photography.
